Pile foundation or bored piles are constructed or
inserted into the ground to take the weight of the vertical structure
. The safety and reliability of the vertical structure depend on the
strength of the pile foundation .
A pile is a vertical structure made of concrete
and steel that is inserted into the ground to before the start of the
construction of the vertical structure on it . The piles are inserted
into the ground on the exact site , where the structure has to come .
There are many reasons why a civil engineer would
recommend the use of piles or Bored
Piles . The foremost is the presence of weak layers of
soil at the construction site . The common reasons may also include
the weight of the structure that is coming up , a poor soil at the
shallow depth at the site of the construction ,or some constraints
such a property lines .
Piles are prefabricated that are driven into the
ground . The piles are generally made of concrete and steel . The
shape of the pile can be in square , round and octagonal . These
piles are prestressed and reinforced with rebar .
There are two types of pile foundations . The end
bearing pile foundation rests on the strong layer of the soil in the
depth that is beyond shallow layers of the soil . The end bearing
pile sits on the rock or hard layer of the soil . This pile transfers
the entire weight of the structure to the hard layer or rock in the
ground .
The other type is known as friction pile . This
pile also transfers the weight of the structure to the ground but by
the way of the friction . The friction piles transfer the weight by
the friction . The friction pile is inserted into the hard layers of
the soil and they generally do not rest on any rock or hard layer .
Since the
Pile Foundation has to take the weight of the
vertical structure , they are made carefully. At the time of
insertion of the piles into the ground, the engineer must also have
to note that the soil or layers of the soil are not overburdened .
The gap is given between the piles , so that the sphere of influence
of one pile is not touching the other pile .
