Properties And Usages Of Bored Piles


Bored pile is a concrete pile that is put into the ground to support the heavy structure constructed on it. These bored piles are the cast in place concrete piles. Bore piling machines are used to put the piles in the ground at the depth of generally 50 meters.

 In other words, we can say that in this method, the hole is bored into the ground and then filling the hole with steel reinforcement and concrete to form a pile.  The bore piles are suitable on wide range of ground. The advantage of the bored pile is that it does not produce vibrations and noise level is not low as compare to traditional pilling system.




The  Bored Piles are used to provide foundation support to the tall massive vertical structure. It gives stability to the tall structures.

Properties –

Bored piles are installed with little or no vibrations and the bored piles do not cause any damage to the structure when direct bored against the structure.  Since, the bored pile produce little noise, it can be used on the densely populated areas .these piles are not suitable for weak soils. Generally, the bored pile is prefabricated piles to reduce the cost, as it takes long to bore a pile.

Uses Of Bored Piles – These piles are used in the populated area where the risks to adjacent building or structures are possible. The use of bored piles reduces the risk of risk to nearby building and also the noise levels are just close to negligible level. The bored piles are also used to expand the industrial buildings because these piles contain vibrations sensitive equipment.


The bored piles system is also used to form contiguous wall and bored secant piles walls for earth retention system.  The contiguous wall is formed by installing piles at close distances of 75 to 150 mm. and the secant wall is formed by overlapping bored piles. The use of secant walls is done at the place with groundwater inflow.


 The advantages of the bored piles Topographical Survey are that the piles of variable lengths can be extended through soft soil into bearing material. The second advantage is that the piles can go beyond the ground level, where show penetration occurs or the moisture level extends. The bored piles also minimize the large excavations. There is less disruption to the adjacent soil. The lack of vibration means that there will be no impact on the adjacent building or structures. The work is generally done by an experienced contractor in bored piles.
